DEC Bulletin

The Winlink 2000 system can send attachments with email messages. These attachments can be Images (pictures), pdf docs, word docs, etc. The maximum size of the file that can be sent in the Winlink System is 120 kb. This includes the message plus attachments.

When an image is attached to the file it will most likely have to be resized. To do this we will use the Picture Editor in the Winlink Express program. To access the Picture Editor, we will start a new message and then click on the Attachments in the Menu Bar of the Enter a new message page that pops up. On the Attachments page that pops up we will click on the ADD button in the Menu Bar. Then navigate to the location where the image is saved and select it. Then click Open at the bottom of the page or double click the image. The file name will appear along with the image size on the Attachments page. If the size is too large for the system, the box will be red. The image will have to be resized or cropped.

To resize the image.

Click on Edit/Resize-image in the Menu bar.  On the Edit XXXXXX_XXXX.jpeg page that pops up click on Resize in the Menu Bar. In the Desired size (kb) enter the size you want to reduce the size of the image to. Click the Change Size button. Then click on Save. Then click on Save changes. Back on the Attachments page the Size box should now be white and the size the image was resized to is shown.

To Crop the image.

Click on Attachments in the Menu Bar of the Enter a new message page. On the Attachments page that pops up click on Add in that Menu Bar. Navigate to the location of the images and click Open at the bottom of the page or double click the image. The file name and the size will appear in the page. If the size is too big for the system click on Edit/Resize-image. Draw a crop box around the part of the image you want to crop then click on Crop in the Menu Bar. Click Save Changes. If the size is still too large, then perform the Resize procedure above. Then click on Save Changes in the Menu Bar.

When finished editing the image click on Finished in the Menu Bar. Back on the Enter a new message page in Winlink Express notice that the file name appears in the Attach: box. Finish with the message and post it to the Outbox. Listen for a clear frequency and send the message.
