VE Exams

W5ESTaking your Amateur Radio Exam with a Volunteer Examiner is very easy.

You can use the ARRL database to search for upcoming Volunteer Examiner (VE) Exams in your area.

The El Paso Amateur Radio Club (W5ES) and the Sun City Amateur Club (K5WPH) both provide VE exam sessions.

Volunteer Examiners (VEs)

Volunteer Examiners (VEs) are US licensed Radio Amateurs holding a General Class license or higher, who offer their time to administer the FCC licensing exams through a FCC authorized Volunteer Examiner Coordinator (VEC) organization.

The ARRL VEC is the largest VEC organization in the US.

A team of three or more ARRL VEs are able to test candidates applying for a new license or upgrading an existing license.

W5ES

The El Paso Amateur Radio Club (W5ES) holds test sessions at 9:00 AM on the first Saturday of every even month (February, April, June, August, October and December), unless it's a holiday weekend, and will be moved to the following Saturday. See the Calendar for the first Saturday dates, times, and locations.

Sessions are held at the W5ES clubhouse, located at 2100 San Diego (at the corner of Cotton and San Diego streets).

Walk-ins are not only welcome but encouraged. The cost of the test is $15.00.

Bring photo ID, copies of any CSCE's, your license and a copy of your license.

K5WPH

The Sun City Amateur Radio Club (K5WPH) holds VE test sessions usually on the first Saturday of every odd month (January, March, May, July, September, and November), unless it's a holiday weekend, and will be moved to the following Saturday. Sessions are held at the K5WPH Clubhouse, located at 3709 Wickham Ave, El Paso, Texas (behind the Walmart on Dyer).

Testing will begin at approximately 9 AM, so applicants should arrive 15 minutes early to fill out forms prior to testing. The clubhouse doors will NOT be locked at any time during the testing. Any person arriving after testing begins MAY be allowed to test, depending upon their arrival time.

The cost of the test is $15.00. Each applicant will need to bring a photo ID or two non-photo IDs. Licensed applicants must also bring the original and a copy of their license.
